A distinction needs to be made now: the Underground itself (the physical object) and the representation of it (the Underground map). When we start thinking about building a website we will map out how it will be built later on. We draw, on paper, exactly what all the connections will be between the pages that make up the site.
The Information Architect won't build the site. The Information Architect won't design it either.

And that's the first step in the Information Architecture process. Creating, on paper, the conceptual super-structure of a website. Showing how the pages connect to create relevant and useful journeys for people.
The Information Architect is responsible for creating and defining the user experience for when the user moves through the 3 dimensional website.
