MyAudi / Ogilvy

Our ongoing relationship with Ogilvy Interactive (Cape Town) sees a new piece of content for the MyAudi website. The Fine Content Company has produced a series of great flash illustrations and a video interview (with top environmental architect Martin Kruger) around the topic of eco-habitats to support their latest article.

Go to www.myaudi.co.za to see it.

Toyota.co.za

We're teaming up with DRAFT/FCB for the redesign of www.toyota.co.za. More automotive for jh-01? Yes. A client committed to the channel and channel integration? Yes. A cool team all round? Yes.

We're delighted to be building further in this vertical. Thanks DRAFT!

Asics Europe

jh-01 has been asked to help analogfolk with the high level information architecture for the Asics Europe webiste / s redesign. Really nice to be working on the European market again and really nice to be working with the folk from folk.

We'll update when this goes live.

Microsoft & MNET

We're proud to be working with Microsoft SA again on a new project - this time helping MNET redesign (in fact totally overhauling) their internal systems - from finance, to buying, planning, contracts to budgetting.

There are two nice parts to this project: one, performing ux design on a deeply complex piece of software (read: rubix cube) problem where a user centric approach is helping immensely and two, the build will be following the Agile process with ux as part of the mix.

We're also delighted to have met the wonderful and talented guys from Information Logistics working on the project.

Virgin Mobile SA

Together with web design company Saturn and Jack! we have won the pitch and been awarded the Virgin Mobile SA account. This will be jh-01's second encounter with Virgin - we helped them with their launch in South Africa last year.

We'd like to add that the compeition was stiff: we were up against the likes of Gloo and Presenze and like to believe that it is our interest in real customer centricity through UX that tipped the scales (but then we would say that wouldn't we ;)

Microsoft SA & Standard Bank

We have been approached by Microsoft South Africa to partner with them in delivering user experience design solutions for their corporate clients. Our first project is with Standard Bank - I can't say anymore but would dearly love to. The project is basically what every UX designer wishes for: visionary, multi-channel, real world and virtual. It's a wonderful opportunity to work with both Microsoft and Standard Bank.

We would like to add that this marks a significant acknowledgement from two major players of the importance and benefit that UX has to offer. In terms of looking at things from a top down perspective this could mark the beginning of UXD's uptake in South Africa - well, we hope so.

Another crack at cars (Mazda regional)

Earlier this year we produced a benchmarking analysis and a statistical analysis for both the Ford and Mazda SA websites. Following on from this work we have been asked to begin work on redesigning the Mazda website. We're really delighted with this and the clients commitment to a user centered approach.

We will be collaborating with WDG in Australia on this project as they roll out the regional Oceana platform for Ford and Mazda.

More for Pam Golding Properties

For over a year now we've been helping Pam Golding with their user experience strategy, ux and detailed information architecture design. They're a truly great client that has taken customer centricity in the web channel to heart.

Now to add to the help we're offering they've asked us to assist with the IA and interface design for the website CMS and their corporate intranet. Thanks guys!

www.flysaa.com phase 2

We've been fairly quite about our work on the www.flysaa.com website but much has happened. We've been quiet because the phase 1 'redesign' had to be done under ludicrous deadlines and was in some respects cosmetic in its change.

Nonethless we achieved three things: one, we implemented a new structure based on the travellers experience of the total 'trip' or journey which has laid a foundation for a more customer centric architecture; two, we helped Jack! roll out a much needed refreshed look and feel; and three, the new architecture and navigation concept allows us to begin integrating previously disconnected functions (websites for leisure, business, Voyager, manage my booking, etc).

There are many problems with the new website which we are aware of and it is far from finished. In fact, we're about to start work on phase 2 which will allow us to roll out the more comprehensive user experience solution we created for them in February earlier this year.

Oh, and regardless of the problems, on the day we went live with the phase 1 website we still managed to achieve record flight bookings for any one day in the history of the website.

Volkswagen: what the stats say

It has been over a year and half since the Volkswagen website redesign went live. During that time there have been various changes (moving off one platform onto another and a few adjustments to the UX). The complete solution was never implemented but the skeleton of the customer journeys is in place.

Over the past year and a half, the website has sustained an increase in activity on the website of around 300%. This includes an increase in time spent on the site and the number of pages viewed by unique visitors. The return rate to the website sits at around 50%.

Given that this is still not the full and complete, phase 1 release and that the phase 2 and 3 releases have never happened we're delighted with the stats.

In addition, it supports the fundamental approaches of JH-01 specifically created to deal with the challenges facing us in SA (low bandwidth, small user bases and limited budgets). It goes to show that if we design within our restrictions instead of ignoring them we can use the Internet effectively and increase use: the promise we made to Volkswagen from the very start.

Home Coming Revolution

I spent the day working with the folks from www.homecomingrevolution.co.za on Monday. They're a non profit interested in researching the ever growing South African diaspora and essentially helping people to return (and thus reversing the brain drain). As we know the skills shortage in SA is a huge problem so I'm really enjoying the content and purpose behind this project. We also applied a journey based approach to the process of returning which was great. I love applying that approach on non-commercial projects.

Ford & Mazda

We're delighted to announce that we'll be working with the Ford Motor Company SA on Ford & Mazda. We're looking forward to doing some amazing work with a client that is totally behind the user centered design process. Well done to them for seeing the value.

Fly SAA

YAY! A new client. JH-01 assisted TwoTone design in winning the SA'n Airways pitch. We've just started work on the project helping out on the user experience design and IA for their primary site www.flysaa.com. We're also excited to mention that Tim Jones will be assisting us.

GGSA: Make Christmas Matter update

The Greater Good South Africa's Christmas campaign has almost met its target of R718 000.00 by two thirds. This is a wonderful achievement already and we're looking forward to hitting our target.

Although I've yet to see the actual site stats we can assume that there is something right in the UX allowing people to transact and give. This is no mean feat from a population where most people aren't online and many do not normally shop or transact online. Bodes really well for next years release of our new platform for the GGSA as a whole.

Merry Xmas
